Father's Day Deals for the Man who Gave Birth to You - HUH?

Got this email promotion from Groupon today.

I wonder who came up with this marketing phrase?

Not a very big target market that I can think of.

I really hope they were trying to be funny and didn't just outsource the campaign to a country where English is not the native language.

Sign on the Monsey Bus

Recently took this bus to Washington, DC.

It had this sign up front.

Worked out the text in Yiddish to see if was a translation of the English, or if it said something like, "All women must sit in the back".

It does seems to be a translation of the English.

Visitor to the Backyard

A new addition to the backyard wildlife list. This guy really liked the plastic lawn chairs.
Conveniently, there was this article about in the paper so I knew what it was.

Another Absurd Supermarket Flyer Ad

You sometimes see ads in supermarket fliers such as "Buy $25 worth of P&G items in a single transaction and get $3 off" or "Buy 10 Hunts tomato product items in a single transaction and get a $5 coupon off your next order". And promotions like that make sense*.

But the following offer in this week's, May 18-24, Stop&Shop flyer makes me wonder what they were thinking.

Oh gee, I don’t think I can manage to buy this ONE Pyrex dish in ONE transaction, so I’ll just buy PART of it now, and get the rest in MORE transactions, later in the week.

Can I get this Pyrex dish on layaway, please?

*Logical sense if not business sense. I once made a net profit of $2.50 buying 10 of the $.25 cans of Hunts tomato sauce. (The next year Hunts figured it out and the promotion was "Buy $10 worth of Hunts tomato products in a single transaction and get a $5 coupon off your next order."

A Dismal Mother’s Day

This post is about our Mother’s Day visit to the Dismal Swamp, the self proclaimed “Everglades of Central New Jersey”.

Though personally, I think that title is a bit of a stretch. Maybe the “Everglades of Metuchen”.  Or better yet, “It Sometimes Get Muddy Here, Especially After a Rain”.

This was our second try to find the Dismal Swamp.  The first time, all we were able to find in the general area was a superfund site.

This time we got to walk around a bit and see the Triple C Ranch, located in the “heart of the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area”.

The swamp had a few vistas,

and the Triple C Ranch had a few farm animals.

and this interesting sign.
