Catch-Up: Canyonlands Land Portion - May 7- 10

I have almost 3 amazing weeks to catch up on. SO much to blog about!

After our canoe trip, we spent a few days in the Needles section of Canyonlands, a 106 mile drive from the main section. It is probably only about 15 miles as the crow flies but building a road to directly connect the two points would be like building a road across the Grand Canyon.

Before heading out to the Needles though, several things needed to be done right away. In order of importance: Find out what had been going on in the world the past week and a half, attend to any family crises that might have come up, take showers (Yuep!), get ice cream, do laundry, and go food shopping. There are no pictures of any of these activities.

Chesler Park Viewpoint Hike. I had originally wanted to continue past the viewpoint for a much longer hike, but the heart said, “Yes,” and the knees (and Bob) said, “No Way”. Just getting to the trailhead was an adventure:

Touristy stuff off the main scenic road: Newspaper Rock, Cave Spring. Pothole Point, Big Spring Canyon Overlook.

Flowers and Red Rock! Canyonlands NTL Park Canoe Trip - Part 3

First off, I would like to set the record straight. Despite what Bob tells you, I did not take a picture of every flower I saw. Although maybe most of them. And we do need to allocate double the recommended time for every hike we take to allow for my flower picture taking. Although it is well worth it because, as you all know, flowers make me happy, and taking pictures of flowers also makes me happy. And when I am happy, Bob is happy.

I was very happy on the canoe trip and all the rest of this trip, as spring flowers are blooming everywhere!

Special shout out to Claret Cup Cactus, Desert Mallow, Datura, and Mormon Tea.

We are in Phoenix for Shavuot and I can’t wait to visit the Desert Botanical Garden. Expect lots more flower pictures!
