St Patrick's Day Lunch at Work

So we were all instructed to bring something to work for a themed St Patrick's Day Lunch. Yum.

So continuing the spirit of themed work lunches...

I am going to suggest a Pesach themed lunch for next week and ask everyone to bring in a kosher for pesach homemade item.  I will be passing out detailed instructions for kashering your kitchen so that they can all get into the pesach spirit.

Considering  all the things I could not eat today, I think I am most glad that the shiny green bagels did not have hashgacha.

Very Enjoyable Day at the Moot Flower Show

Nice flowers at the Edison Flower Show, but I kinda like the current bloom going on at home:

This is a Bromeliad (Vriesea Christiane).
The red "flower" is actually a  bract,  or specialized leaf. Similar to the bracts of Poinsettia or Bougainvillea. The red bract will look like this for months. Next time you see me, ask me how I got started in bromeliads.

The flower is actually a tiny thing. Here is one in bloom, and you can see some others that are almost ready to go.

I also have a trusty Clivia Miniata in bloom. These flowers are hanging in there for a third week. This plant is like the EverReady bunny of clivias. You can see the stalk of the previous bloom below the current one. No berries formed, alas. This plant has been performing for 2 months.

Very Enjoyable Day at the Edison Flower Show part 2

This is the plant material I got at this year's show:
Also got a new pillow for my Pi (yes, at the flower show) and a new mop (yes, at the flower show).

I hope these guys will be happy in their new home.

Very Enjoyable Day at the Edison Flower Show

Had a very enjoyable day at the Edison Flower Show.

This year's theme was Mardi Gras.

Hard to believe, but I forgot my camera at home so took these not very good pictures with my phone.

How extreme can this amusement park ride be?

This was the most thorough warning I have ever seen for an amusement park ride.

Hear What People are Saying About Loud Bicycle

A while back I was an early poster on a new Kickstarter project, Loud Bicycle.

Now, a month later, congratulations to Loud Bicycle for achieving 110% of it's fundraising goal with 4 days still to go!

If you were planning to order one, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet, now would be a good time!

Hear what people are saying about Loud Bicycle!

"Research engineer Jonathan Lansey‘s solution is ingenious"

  "An outstanding Kickstarter project"

"Better than a bell: Edison engineers invent car horn for bikes"

"Like many successful inventions, Lansey’s was borne of necessity"

"It might just save your life"

Boston Daily
“Surely some engineering student here in Boston can develop a  car horn for a bike,” we said, and agreed that’d be a rather brilliant idea.  Thankfully, Jonathan Lansey already had it."

Huffington Post
"A bicycle hooter as loud as a car horn has hit Kickstarter in the latest tech innovation designed to increase the safety of cycling"

"The Loud Bicycle is here, finally"

London Cyclist
"Why hasn't somebody already invented this?  That’s the hallmark of a great idea"

LaughingSquid
"The Loud Bicycle Horn is a bike horn that gets the attention of nearby motorists"

UrbanVelo
"Engineer Jonathan Lansley has created the Loud Bicycle car horn for cyclists"

Handsome Guy in the Backyard!

I've seen this handsome guy (gal?) in the backyard several times, usually running through. When my camera is nowhere in sight of course.

This time however he was out for a stroll and my camera was at hand.

He stopped to pose.

Nice bushy tail.

I Never Thought Ice Cream Could Be Made Unappetizing

I was clearing off some of the clutter on my desk today and I came across this coupon:
Maybe they'll do another one for Christmas?
