Where: Rahway River Park.

What: I supect this ladder is on hand to rescue people who have fallen through the ice.

“A standard roof ladder is ideal for assisting the rescuer to distribute his weight across the ice and to serve as an extension device to extend to the victim in the water. Depending on the depth of the water, one end of the ladder can also be dropped into the water as an aid for the rescue personnel and victim to climb out of the water.”

Luckily for me, I had not fallen through the ice at the time, being that it was spring and that there was no ice.

In the very unlikely event I had fallen though the ice that day, I suspect that the ladder still could have been effectively used to rescue me even though it had a broken rung.

In the more likely event of my having been walking on the water and fallen through, the ladder could have also potentially saved me from drowning by being used as a flotation device.
